Sometimes trusting someone is like a life or death situation…

Though she always takes the train to work, this time she had to use a different transportation. Her workplace had been temporarily shifted to a different location. There was a huge event coming up and they had to work on the site. The change did make her feel good but the transportation service made it difficult.

The work pressure was increasing as the event dates were nearing and it was indeed too much to handle. Sleepless nights were spent on n number of coffees also by travelling to and fro. The team generally started stretching their work hours preparing inevitably to make the event possible and a sure success.

One such day she had to stretch, for the work was not finished and she didn’t want it to be left undone. She finally got her work finished for the day and analysed things that had to be done the next day, having wrapped it up she left for home. As usual, she took her mobile phone to book a taxi. After two minutes of watching the line travel between the dots, she managed to book one. The estimated time for the cab to arrive showed 7 minutes. After a quick refresh which took up 4 minutes, she walked towards the main entrance.

She waited in front of the gate, watching her stand alone the night guard on duty stood outside the gate giving her a moral support. A smile was exchanged between them. After a minute or two, the cab arrived a little shabby and it’s windows rolled down. Seeing the car number she got in. He asked for the OTP number and she dictated it to him. He punched in the numbers and the drive began.

The 5 minutes silence was broken by the sound of the window pane closing. The driver switched on the A.c, she was watching out of the window, seeing the vehicles passing by and the voice of the driver distracted her.
“Are you from Chennai?” he asked
Though she had a little hesitation to answer the question, she still did say “yes” and nodded with confidence.

The silence continued again but this time with uneasiness preoccupied with her. She switched her gaze back to the window. After few minutes of time, the driver spoke yet again

“Do you travel to work this far?”

she looked at him for a brief moment their eyes met in the rear mirror. she shifted her gaze immediately while replying a yes in return.

Now it was difficult just to sit there and stare out the window while her curiosity insisted her to check the rear mirror. After a minute or two, her eyes flashed back to the rear mirror and the driver’s pair of eyes shot back at hers. She stared back at him hoping he would change his gaze but it was her who finally did.

After a 15 minutes drive the driver again spoke
“Do you take the cab every day?” with irritation crowding her voice she waited before responding. Hearing no response the driver turned and looked at her knowing she couldn’t evade the question further she answered a silent yes while her insides screaming “Could you please shut up and drive”.

After some time she took out her earphones and plugged in, with music streaming she started to relax a little. She checked her watch and it showed 10:30. She literally felt time crawl by. It was moving so slow that she wished there existed some kind of superpower to speed things up. After a song or two, the curious gaze of the driver fell on her and the rear mirror was the proof of that.

The cab took a fast turn towards the right and her head slightly banged on the window. Though she had to be in pain it was the fear that clouded her eyes for the roads were so dark and empty. She tried searching out through the window in a source of finding one soul or at least one lamp post pass by, but all that she could feel was the gaze falling on her often. Praying hard she finally asked him
“Why did you take this route?”
“It’s a short route,” he said scanning her through the rear mirror.

The dial on her watch was ticking and she could literally hear the sound of it. She tried calling her friends but was it fate or coincidence, all seem to be busy that day at that particular time. She hoped someone would call and like an answer to the prayer and it did finally ring. She saw the screen and her guy’s number shown bright with his picture. She swiftly slid the green button and answered the call. His voice so comforting and eventually the road lit up. She loosened a little while basking herself in his voice. Time flew by and the cab finally came to a halt, realized she had reached her safe haven and disconnected the call. She reached for her bag to pay the cab fare and that time the driver spoke

“Mam, not all drivers are bad and sometimes trusting them can be your only choice,” he said taking the fare amount from her

“Sorry” She apologized

“It’s okay mam! you are not to be blamed the society is” he said as she got down from the cab.

As she was about to close the door, the driver yelled
“Mam!”
She bowed a little and looked at him
“I kept talking and seeing through the rear mirror that you don’t fall asleep” He finally answered the question she had been thinking all through the ride.

Hearing his answer she finally smiled at him while getting one in return…

And Happily Ever After…

A lonely road
With a heavy downpour
She stood drenched and cold
With her bike which stood close by
Portraying to be dead inside

A distant light
A car zoomed by
Making her skirt fly a little high
Freezing her hands and thighs
For which she cursed a little inside

The sound of the engine
Made her hopes high
Stopped at a distance with a man inside
Her legs froze to the ground as she saw him step outside

A step closer he took
A step backward she took
“Can I offer help?” he says
As a  street light shone on his face
She gasped as she knew who he was

A silence crept
as her lips trembled to speak
“This isn’t a scene from your movie” she finally blurted
“Well I’m not trying to play a villain but a hero” he added
“But still you’re a man and I’m a girl” she insisted

A smile passed between his lips
“The world knows me” he exclaimed
“But how does that make me trust you” she questioned
“How about this” he said
as he snapped a selfie with her.

He posted the picture with 140 characters
“Now the entire planet will know you’re with me? “He uttered
She smiled, for she trusted him inside
Now the world not only knows them by name
But also as husband and wife…

Vast and wide,
yet they do not meet…

Reflects and projects,
yet they do not meet…

Shooting stars and secret wishes,
yet they do not meet…

Proclaims and pronounces,
Yet they do not meet…

Hypnotizes and awakens,
Yet they do not meet…

Secrets and mysteries,
Yet they do not meet…

Gentle waves and scattered rays,
Yet they do not meet…

Heavens above and Oceans below,
Yet they do not meet…

Sky reaches out to the sea,
a perfect illusion of being together…

A princess with a Warrior inside…

Once upon a time there lived a beautiful princess,

Who always wandered in the woods in her night dress.

Her mother, the queen was worried of what she would become,

For she was a little bit of heaven with a wild turn.

Though she was a princess she never had friends,

Because they found her to be weird and they couldn’t pretend.

Days passed as she did the same thing.

Wakes up and wanders in the woods until the bed time.

Her father adored her no matter how she was,

Cause she was his little princess after all.

She would sing and dance but nobody heard,

But the woods enjoyed her every gasp of breath.

A day came when she grew to be a fine woman,

Who was lost in the books and stories from a faraway land.

She never wanted to live a provisional life,

Like running the castle and only bearing the child.

She searched for adventure in every turn and,

Never found a prince who would match her visions.

She was singing a song when a horse came along,

With a little gallop and a stop.

She lifted her head to find a young prince,

Looking down at her with a mystical grin.

Days passed and they became best of friends.

“What kind of man would you rather marry?”

He finally asked,

“Someone who needs a companion rather than a slave”

He turned and then smiled,

For he knew she was a warrior inside…

The door was hard to push…

It was heavy for her fragile hands. She struggled with her might every time to pull or push open. There were days she wished it was less heavy or had more strength. But today was different though it began like every day. As usual she struggled to push it open her arms sliding on the door has her body curved with all her might…

Failing she gave it one last try, wiping her hands before putting in all her strength but this time there was a pair of legs behind her and strong sturdy hands placed on the door along with hers giving her an extra force to push the door open. She turned her head to see his face catching a glimpse of those hands. He stood there behind her, Tall and shabby yet handsome with his shirt sleeves rolled up, His hair tousled looking like he just arrived from a long ride.

Beauty never have to be neat… Is it?  she thought has she looked at him holding the door open for her.

“You should ask for help” he said a voice that awakens all her senses.

“You mean help to push open a door” she asked looking at his eyes and then shifting her gaze to his watch

“Yeah, why not?” he replied with a question making a curt nod looking at her and the door.

“That would be embarrassing” she shrugged replying to his question.

“No, I would love to open doors for you…” she looked up at him and their eyes met. It was always in that brief moment an eternity was lost.

“Anytime anywhere” he said finishing the sentence as she blushed at him…

“So is that an yes” he asked

“Might probably be” she replied

This time he blushed as she walked through the door he held open for her…

To breathe again…

This is a story where reality and imagination collides… Do read and leave a comment…

He stood there waiting outside the elevator feeling restless, looking at the display above it as the number started to ascend. His heart raced as the elevator destined to its desired floor. He looked at his wrist watch and the needle was placed in such a way they were showing a 90 degree angle. She usually comes at 11 am he says to himself.

His heart started thumping faster and faster while his mind replayed the questions he wanted to ask for the 200th time. The display pinged distracting him and he looked when the elevator reached the 3rd floor. The door slides and she stepped out. Her eyes first fell on his neck and then she raised her head to see his face. His eyes were already fixed on hers. He was tall and majestic and she was all the opposite of what he was. Their eyes finally met making him forget every word that was rehearsed even secs before. Her eyes grew bigger seeing him look at her. There is definitely something in those eyes he thought. The same sentence crossed her mind at the very same time. She moved to leave and he caught her hand as a reflex reaction. She jerked and while her eyes searched the entire reception area not wanting someone to start an unnecessary gossip.

“Follow me” he said pulling her towards the fire exist. He pushed opened the door and started to descend the flight of stairs dragging her behind him. He finally  stood in-between both the floors. She followed quietly not saying a word. she looked at him as he turned and saw her questioning gaze. Her eyes dropped on her hand which was still locked in the firm grip of his hand. His eyes followed hers knowing what it was he removed it immediately.

“sorry” was all that he would think of but his lips never moved. Her eyes met his again. A look so intense shortening his breathe. They looked at each-other like they were about to kiss. Not able to breathe
“I need oxygen” he said
“ what?” she asked confused and concerned
“Are you able to breathe?” he asked abruptly moving inches closer.
She gave a shy smile responding “yes”.
“I need an extremely large amount of oxygen… Excuse me” he said dashing out of the door.

The moment he left she gasped for air remembering to breathe again
